Title:Jewellery Quarter belt
Date:Sep 2026
Original Size: 36 inches long
Notes: Inkle woven belt produced for the WSD annual competition in 2026. The competition was "jewels of the jewellery quarter" - I came second. I designed the baltic-style weaving to try to depict an anchor - the kite mark for gold in Birmingham. Not completely successful, it doesn't really look like an anchor, and there were very long floats on the back. However it was interesting working out how to make the pointed end to the belt. The sparkly green (for the clock tower) and the red (for the Victorian red brick) were dyed; the gold was a cone I bought for dyeing. Woven on holiday in Scotland, with an antique buckle which I inherited from someone in the family sewn on. This one is for me
